BDW – Brake Disk Wiping

A Brake Disc Wiping (BDW) system in a car is a safety feature that most UAE drivers will never need to make use of – it wipes off the film of water than can build up on brake discs when driving in the rain or on wet roads.

The system is activated when the windscreen wipers are switched on.

If the driver does not brake within a five minute period then the system will gently press the brake pads to the disc in order to wipe off the film of water that has built up.

The driver does not notice the process and it stops when the windscreen wipers are turned off.

Keeping the brake disc clear of water improves braking performance when the brakes are actually needed.
